In our new stockist series, we’ll be highlighting the retailers who sell Monastery around the world. Join us in NYC with esthetician Carrie Lindsey and her eponymous spa.
When choosing our esthetician partners, we are very careful to work with partners we trust carry similar ethos and dedication to their clients like Monastery. Carrie Lindsey, an esteemed esthetician with an extensive background in the beauty and skincare industry came recommended from some of our most trusted clients. Her eponymous skincare and brow studio opened in Fort Greene, Brooklyn in 2016 and has since expanded to her second location in the NoHo neighborhood of Manhattan. Carrie cares for her clients in a deep and connective way and employs a full staff of knowledgable and talented estheticians. We are very proud to have a Monastery facial on the menu at both beautiful locations.
Q: Can you describe your ethos when it comes to skincare?
A: I have been an esthetician for nearly 30 years so my ethos has evolved and changed so much in this time. The old saying “beauty comes from within” has never felt more true. Gut health, diet and mental health are at the forefront of my skincare ethos. After this, I think skincare is so specific to each person. I like to meet client’s where they are at in terms of commitment, time, expense and lifestyle. It can be simple or advanced.
Q: What compelled you to work in the skincare world?
A: My grandmother and mother followed extensive Mary Kay cleansing routines. I loved sitting in the bathroom watching this ritual. It felt so purposeful and what I imagined it was like to be a woman. I couldn’t wait to be a woman. I think in many ways I found skincare to stay connected to them and to women in general.
Q: What drew you to Monastery?
A: Our esthetician Rachel Dickman took a class with Monastery and was hooked. She loved the integrity behind the product and of the course the results. I was so taken by the thoughtfulness and design of the packaging, not to mention the perfect formulation. I am so grateful for Rachel’s expert pick.
Q: What can clients/customers expect when they come to your space?
A: Community. We have a great community around us. I think when clients come to our space they feel welcomed and a part of this community. I love nothing more than when my clients, staff and anyone in the shop are all chatting/exchanging tips ranging from skincare, music, art, movies to the perils of dating, motherhood and friendship.
Q: What are your favorite Monastery products to use?
A: At the risk of sounding trite ALL of them!!! If forced to choose one, I have to go with the Aloe. It is my go to the treatment room. I love anything that hydrates and calms. This works on EVERYONE, in skincare that is unusual.
Q: What was an 'aha' moment you had with skincare in your life?
A: When I realized I wanted to work with people’s psychological well being in conjunction with skincare. I fell in love with work all over again.
Q: What would you consider as your personal esthetician style or expertise?
A: I would say it goes back to why I became an esthetician. It is my way to connect. I think the connection to the client is everything. As is the mind body connection. I have clients who still see me 20+ years later. Their kids come to see me! It's such an honor. Connection and community are deeply important to me.
Q: What do you want to see more of in the skincare space?
A: Ha! I want to see less. The market has become saturated. I am a less is more person as well as a minimalist. I am overwhelmed with the skincare world.
