Glowy skin is generally on everyone’s wish list when it comes to their skin. As an esthetician of over 25 years, I’ve seen all different skin types on my table but the most common one I see is dry skin. Generally, if we can fix this issue there’s no reason why you can’t have healthy, radiant skin.
Q: What are the common culprits of dull skin?
A: Firstly, genetics. Some of us are born with a dry skin type rather than oily. Those of us with naturally dry skin will forever have to do more for a glow with those with a natural oilier skin type. We should all be considerate of our salt intake and diet as this contributes greatly to the appearance of a glow. Omega acids, vitamin k, polyphenols, water intake – these all can make a big difference. And last but not least important is what we are applying to our skin.
Q: Are there products or ingredients you should avoid if you’re trying to get a glow?
A: If you are using cleansers that are gel based, I’d advise against it. Anything with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, also synthetic fragrances, are a no. Products that have preservatives like, phenoxyethanol, triclosan, polyethylene glycol, sodium benzoate. NO. Also, the over application of alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), any exfoliants (even manual exfoliants) will often make the skin appear dull as it will eventually become over-dried.
Q: Which Monastery products are best for a glow?
A: Flora, Rei, Attar and XX are our immediate glow products. Flora has almost a little reflective property to it. I can layer it over anything and have an immediate glow effect. Attar is a balm, so obviously it’s going to give a glow. Rei gives a glow from within by exfoliating the skin in an even and steady process. XX gives an immediate exfoliation to the top layers of the epidermis, this of course provides an instant glow!
Q: How do you maintain a glow throughout the day?
A: I reapply Flora or Attar! I just kind of press them into the top of whatever I’m wearing and I always add a little Attar to any makeup that I’m wearing so that it doesn’t dry me out.
