Exceptional skin care starts with exceptional ingredients. Read on for a little bit of info about how we source the ingredients for the products that you love.
At Monastery we source the highest quality fine oils and absolutes in the world. We have spent over a decade locating the best ingredients the world has to offer to make your skincare something less ordinary.
Typically used only by the world's best perfumers and considered too difficult to source by the majority of the skincare industry, these are the highest grade aromatics and plant materials that can be obtained.
We work directly with the farmers who grow and process the source ingredients.
Rose from South Africa, neroli from France, peppercorn from Kenya, jasmine from India.
And within India we source only from small farms in the Tamil Nadu region where the best of the best jasmine is grown.
Ideally, jasmine crops stay under 2 acres as each and every flower has to be picked by hand. Picking must be done with exceptional care as to not bruise the flower. Bruising could produce an unpleasant fragrant note in the finished oil. One acre of jasmine produces anywhere from 2,000 - 10,000 lbs of flowers depending on how many years the crop has been yielding and the climate of the season. This yield may sound like a lot but will likely only produce 1-5 lbs of unadulterated and precious oil. From this small yield we gather an even smaller yield of only the most concentrated materials of the plant extracts, the absolutes. An absolute is the finest form of the plant material, with the richest aroma.
In our years of research and product formulation we have found that a product’s quality is dependent on all of its components. The cultivation, the climate, the human care, the storage, the pressing times, the pressing components, all of these variables matter greatly.
We believe those who seek out the best ingredients in the world hold the key to making superior products that will withstand the test of time.
